GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- The toy drive is over but the Toys For Tots people are facing a new emergency.
Toys For Tots suddenly need a new warehouse—ASAP.
They have until Friday to move out all of the toys from their current space near the oaks mall.
The drive has been there for three years, distributing toys in Alachua, Gilchrist, Dixie, And Levy counties.
The property ownership changed however and the coordinator for Toys For Tots, Bryan Chrisp, said there was a miscommunication on renewing the lease.
“You never know what’s going to happen from year to year,” Chrisp said. “We’ve been very blessed to have this option for the past few years. We’ve kind of been spoiled but again it has helped us better serve the community by having this space available to us to continue doing what we do."
A local company donated a semi-trailer to hold the toys until they find a new space.
The remaining toys will be donated to area charities.
“We’re not going anywhere,” Chrisp said. “We’re dedicated to our mission and we’re going to fulfill it one way or another.”
