MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK)- Santa Claus leads a herd of bikers riding down 8th street in Meridian. All to collect hundreds of toys for a good cause.
Bikers United for Children held their 9th Annual Toy Run where the organization rode out from the Hilton Garden to and made their way to College Park United Methodist Church.
“We know there are kids and family out there that can’t provide. We’re fortunate, we can, and we do what we can to help. We put a smile on a kids face the best way we can and we try to cover as many we can. We are the fortunate ones and there’s many out there plenty out there that are not,” says Bikers United for Children – committee member, David Kimbrell.
Over 70 bikers rode the streets of Meridian with a sleigh containing over 500 toys.
“This is one of the largest events that we do here at college park each and every year. Our people are excited about it they provide all the chili, cornbread, and desserts. They really look forward to it from the oldest to the youngest. We just glad and thankful to be a part of this,” says Pastor of College Park United Methodist Church.
The executive director of the Wesley House says none of this would possible without the kind hearts of these bikers.
“It’s the hearts of the bikers today, and it’s the hearts of the community that comes together to make it possible. We are in a fortunate place of being between those who are able to give back to those who are in need,” says Wesley House executive director, David Schultz.
The toy drive is put on the first Saturday of December each year. All proceeds raised at the toy run will be donated to the Wesley House.
