Dog steals toy from baby in hilarious video - Fox News

This dog needs to learn how to play well with others.

When a father noticed that his infant daughter liked one of the dog’s toys, he decided to let her play with it. Unfortunately, the beloved pet was not in the mood to share.

Ellie, a 7-year-old corgi, apparently does not like to share.

Thomas Weber was playing catch with his dog, Ellie, when he noticed his daughter reaching for the dog bone, Caters reports. Weber decided to give 7-month-old Aria a chance to check out the toy.

It turns out, however, that Ellie is very possessive of her toys and is seen stealing back from Aria, who seems to have put the dog bone in her mouth. Luckily for the pooch, Aria did not seem to put up much of a fight and let the pooch have her plaything back.

This isn’t the only dog caught taking toys from children.

ZEUS, DOG STOLEN FROM MONTANA AND FOUND IT WEST VIRGINIA, JOURNEYS 2,000 MILES HOME WITH HELP OF VOLUNTEERS

A police department in Massachusetts noticed that several items had disappeared from a collection they had been gathering for toy drive for local children. When they looked into the disappearances, they were shocked to learn that one of their own was responsible.

The Franklin Police Department checked its surveillance footage only to discover that Ben, one of the department’s golden retrievers, was taking toys from the bin, The New York Post reports. The footage didn’t show, however, where he was taking them.

That required officers to get personally involved.

The department uploaded footage to Facebook that shows Ben, who works as a therapy dog, being caught red-handed with a baby doll in a carrier in his mouth. As the officers approach him, Ben calmly walks down a hallway to another room.

They eventually discovered that Ben was storing his stolen goods under a desk.

“The facility is locked down so we knew it was pretty simple to figure out it was Ben,” Deputy Chief James Mill told Boston 25. “When Ben saw the toys, he thought they all belonged to him."

Toy Tuesday: The Best Toys Of 2019 - Geek

It’s been a hell of a year for toy collectors, and we’ve worked to bring you the best and the brightest week after week on Toy Tuesday. In this final installment, we’re looking at the releases from all of our favorite manufacturers around the world and picking eleven toys that stood above the rest. No matter what your fandom, we’ll bet you’ll find something to take home here. And if not, well, 2020 is right around the corner and we’re not slowing down.

Mezco One:12 Collective Blade Figure

Mezco One:12 Collective Blade Figure

Of all the movies coming in the next wave of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the return of the daywalker Blade is the one I’m most hyped about. It’s easy to forget that before comic book movie were big business, Wesley Snipes made bank with a series of gory, fun action flicks starring Blade. This Mezco figure is ludicrously detailed with some of the most OTT features we’ve seen – the trenchcoat is removable and can be zipped up, and he totes a flabbergasting array of weapons, from stakes sheathed to his leg to a trusty shotgun, sword and more. My dude’s ready to dust some vamps.

King Mickey Nendoroid

King Mickey Nendoroid

The release of a new Kingdom Hearts was just another point of data in an already crowded gaming year, but true heads celebrated the return to the bizarre Disney / Square Enix mash-up universe. The maniacs at Good Smile cranked out hundreds of their poseable, high-quality Nendoroid figures this year, and lots of them were cool, but we had to opt for the King Mickey. Disney’s mascot character comes with his mighty keyblade, two face plates and four interchangeable eye parts for a variety of expressions.

NECA Ultimate Deadpool 1/4 Scale Figure

NECA Ultimate Deadpool 1/4 Scale Figure

In general, the larger the action figure the more room designers have for detail and articulation. For decades, collectors have had to be satisfied with 1/6 scale – as seen with the original G.I. Joes – for a big figure. Those stood a foot tall, true, but it took a real maniac to go even bigger. The minds at NECA kicked off their new 1/4 scale figures with Marvel’s merc with a mouth, and this ridiculously complete Deadpool is one of the most impressive action figures of the year. Standing 18 inches tall, Wade Wilson comes with a flabbergasting assortment of accessories and alternate parts, and with over 30 points of movement he can be posed all kinds of ways.

Get it ($131.95) at Amazon.com

McFarlane Toys Doom Slayer

McFarlane Toys Doom Slayer

We’re so happy that the Doom franchise has returned to the grisly, fast-paced action that it pioneered in the first-person shooter space. When all is said and done, we’ll put the Doomguy up as one of the iconic pop culture figures of a generation. This McFarlane take on the iconic space marine stands 7 inches tall, comes with a Doom logo base, super shotgun, and arm blade for those close-up melee kills that feel so good. 22 points of articulation let you pose him in all kinds of demon-slaying situations.

Figma Joker Action Figure

Figma Joker Action Figure

With Persona 5: Royal coming out next year and Joker surfacing as a top-tier fighter in Smash, 2019 was a super good year for fans of Atlus’s demon-catching, teen-befriending franchise. Good Smile’s Figma line is popular around here for the quality and poseability of their figures, and their take on the delinquent protagonist of the most recent installment is just as slick as you’d expect. Multiple faceplates let you express a variety of emotions, and you can Hold Up your foes with his pistol and dagger. Joker even comes with a Morgana figure to guide him through Mementos.

Get it ($100) at Amazon.com

Sega Genesis Mini

Mini-consoles have been a thing for the past few years, but nobody really got it right until the Genesis Mini. Nintendo’s wee NES had a puzzling and limited collection of games, and Sony’s PS1 Mini omitted most of that system’s best for some hinky also-rans. The Genesis Mini, though, hits on all fronts. Not only does it boast pretty much every essential game for the 16-bit console – over 40 in total – but also cult hits that still hold up today. It’s a great retro gaming bargain that deserves a place in your setup.

Get it ($57) at Amazon.com

LEGO Ultimate Star Destroyer

LEGO Ultimate Star Destroyer

The Star Wars license has been very good for LEGO, not only making them a ton of money but also pushing their engineers to design some of the most ambitious kits in the company’s history. Clocking in at a staggering 4784 pieces, the biggest and baddest Star Destroyer they’ve ever made is a detailed and complex replica with lots of features. When fully assembled, it measures over three feet long and two feet wide, comes with a display stand and a tiny Tantive IV shuttlecraft for scale.

Sphero Specdrums

Sphero Specdrums

There are more ways to make cool music now than ever before, and if you’re interested in chopping beats and making loops but don’t know where to start, this irresistible gadget from the minds at Sphero is a must-try. The Specdrum system revolves around a little white ring that you tap down on a colored surface to trigger a sound. Paired with an accompanying app, they let you dive into the spectrum of color and synesthetically transfigure it to music. It’s a wildly creative and tactile way to make cool sounds perfect for absolute beginners or seasoned experts.

MAFEX John Wick Action Figure

MAFEX John Wick Action Figure

2020’s looking to be the Year of Keanu, as the laconic actor will feature in a new Matrix movie, a Bill and Ted sequel, and even the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 game. The franchise that brought our man back to the top of the charts, though, is John Wick, where he plays the titular dog-loving murder dude on a path of bloody vengeance. There won’t be a new Wick until 2021, but Medicom’s MAFEX line kicked out a seriously dope figure to hold you over.

Get it ($130) at Amazon.com

Wingspan

Wingspan

It was a pretty solid year for board games, with lots of interesting experiences for multiple players. But the game that dazzled us the most came seemingly from out of nowhere. Designed by Elizabeth Hargrave and published by Stonemaier Games, it’s a gorgeously produced engine-building game that boasts a ton of strategic depth while staying away from the normal themes. In Wingspan, bird enthusiasts build habitats to attract varying species, each of which has different advantages and disadvantages. It’s a crisp, clear, and streamlined game that’s a blast to play.

NERF Ultra One Blaster

NERF Ultra One Blaster

You wouldn’t think that there would be any more technological advancement to find in the world of foam dart guns, but NERF is constantly pushing the envelope. 2019’s release of the Ultra One Blaster saw the company create a motorized dart gun that lofts projectiles farther than any other gun of its type – a massive 120 feet. They use a new type of dart that Hasbro has patented to crack down on bootleggers, so make sure to collect your ammo after the war is over. The dart drum for this baby holds up to 25 shots, so you’ll be able to lay down fire for a while before reloading.

Toy fund families say 'thank you' to generous readers - Press Herald

The volunteers behind the Press Herald Toy Fund get to hear many “thank yous” from the families they help.

Mothers and fathers are filled with relief and gratitude when they come to pick up the toys for their children in the weeks leading up to Christmas. For volunteers, that direct interaction is a reminder of why they do the work and how the simple gift of new toys can provide joy for families going through difficult times.

But you, the readers who donate the money that buys those gifts, don’t get to meet the parents, accept their thanks or see the appreciation on their faces. The fact that you nevertheless give so generously is one of the enduring and essential elements of the 70-year-old charity.

But fortunately, some parents also put their appreciation in writing. So this is for you, dear readers: a note from a father in southern Maine whose family you touched this year.

“To all – A great big thank you for my children’s gifts. You made the difference between no presents and a great Christmas.”

While the gifts have been unwrapped and decorations are coming down, the toy fund is still in need of cash donations from readers to cover its costs and to sustain the charity as it moves into it’s seventh decade helping Maine families.

Donations received during the holiday season are published in the newspaper, and those that have not yet been published will be listed in a future edition of the newspaper and online. Financial support also is accepted year-round and ensures that the fund will have the resources to buy gifts the next year.

THE PRESS HERALD TOY FUND in the Spirit of Bruce Roberts uses donations from readers to provide toys to thousands of Maine children who might otherwise not receive holiday gifts because of hardships faced by their parents. Now in its 70th year, the fund provides toys to needy families in York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Androscoggin, Lincoln and Knox counties.

• DONATIONS to help buy the toys can be made year round at pressheraldtoyfund.org or by writing checks to the Portland Press Herald Toy Fund and mailing them to the fund at P.O. Box 7310, Portland, ME 04112.

• FOR MORE INFORMATION, call 791-6672 or go to: pressheraldtoyfund.org.

Philadelphia mom warns of danger of tiny magnet toys - WPVI-TV

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A Philadelphia mom has a warning about a popular toy your child may have received this holiday season.

She says the toy caused her son to have emergency surgery.

They are tiny balls with super strong magnets called rare-earth magnets.

They are very appealing to kids.

And while they can be fun to play with, Sara Cohen says if you have these in your home, get rid of them immediately.

She says her son ended up in the hospital three years ago.

"These are extremely dangerous, they're so strong that they can tear through someone's intestines," says Cohen.

Cohen is talking about tiny, but powerful magnets marketed and sold on Amazon and elsewhere.

Cohen's son swallowed two of the magnets when he was 7 years old.

Cohen showed Action News the surgical pictures of the holes created in her son's intestine.

"And in between the two magnets was three loops of bowel that had been impinged that were in the way," she said.

These products were banned by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in 2012, but manufacturers appealed and a federal court lifted the ban four years later.

"There are estimates that over a 10 year period, over 22,000 people ingested magnets and suffered injuries," said Daniel Mann, an attorney with the Feldman Shepherd law firm.

"It is startling and that's why parents need to pay attention," he added.

And since the ban was lifted, problems are skyrocketing.

The country's poison control centers are reportedly on track to record six times more magnet ingestions this year than in 2016.

"The surgeon told me that there are teenagers who have these ingested. They use them as fake nose piercings, and then they get swallowed," says Cohen.

"And so it's not an age thing," she says. "Throw them away."

We reached out to the manufacturer of the product the Cohens bought.

We have not yet heard back.

But we did talk to Shihan Qu, the head of Zen Magnets, who was instrumental in getting rare-earth magnets back on the market.

He agrees they are terribly dangerous for children and should never be marketed or sold as toys.

Important Toy News: The 10 biggest toy stories of 2019 - SYFY WIRE

2019 was a year of amazing announcements for the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise. Over at Super7, they successfully crowdfunded a 4 foot tall, three-foot wide Snake Mountain playset. We also got a few new waves of MOTU figures from the Super7 warehouses, including my beloved Evil-Lyn, Shadow Weaver, and the Japanese box figures of He-Man and Skeletor.

But the biggest MOTU related surprises actually came from Mattel themselves. In 2019, they first announced that Masters of the Universe was coming (back) to the big screen. Then, we saw three new toy announcements from Mega Construx, Mattel’s answer to LEGO. Mega Construx created a Wind Raider Attack plane, a Battle Bones set, Castle Grayskull, and about six “totally not Minifigures."

Shortly after, an homage to MOTU was released by Mattel with some new MOTU x WWE crossover figures. But the best of the best would come when Mattel announced its He-Man Origins toy line complete with new cartoon. Tons of characters were announced in the first wave, including He-Man, Teela, Man at Arms, Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Best Man, and Battle Cat!

Toy Con Toy Shows 22nd Year of Supporting Kids Fighting Cancer - Patch.com

Toy Con Toy Show of Bridgeview is giving to children and teens fighting cancer. The annual charity toy show, held on December 8th at the Bridgeview Community Center, featured 60 toy dealers. When the show was over, Toy Con had raised more than $2,170 in gift cards and collected thousands of toys for the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation (POTCF).

Toy Con Toy Show was established in 1992 and is dedicated to presenting toy shows featuring an amazing variety of toys (including action figures, superheroes, dolls, lunch boxes, sci-fi toys and more) as well as comic books, non-sport cards and rare, hard-to-find collectibles.

Toy Con Toy Show co-founder Terry Mannix said, "It's been 22 years and we're still helping provide kids fighting cancer with smiles to keep them going."

Treasure Chest Foundation CEO and Founder Colleen Kisel appreciates the tremendous support provided each year by the show's organizers. Colleen said, "Toy Con Toy Show was the very first organization to host a toy drive 22 years ago to benefit the Treasure Chest Foundation. 100% of their donation will end up in the hands of a child fighting cancer."

The POTCF is a unique organization whose services impact more than 14,000 young cancer patients in 59 cancer treatment centers in 20 states across the nation and in the District of Columbia. Nowhere else in the nation does such a program exist. Colleen Kisel founded the organization in 1996 after her then seven-year-old son Martin had been diagnosed with leukemia in 1993. Ms. Kisel discovered that giving her son a toy after each procedure provided a calming distraction from his pain, noting that when children are diagnosed with cancer their world soon becomes filled with doctors, nurses, chemotherapy drugs, surgeries and seemingly endless painful procedures. Martin celebrated his 26th anniversary of remission from the disease in March of 2019.

If you would like further information about the Treasure Chest Foundation, please contact Colleen Kisel at 708-687-TOYS (8697) or visit the Foundation's web site at www.treasurechest.org.

'A message of love': Muslim women hand-craft Christmas toys in Gaza - Haaretz

Muslim women in the Palestinian Gaza Strip have been hand-crafting gifts for the approaching Orthodox Christmas as part of a project to empower a traditional community.

Their Santa Claus dolls, toy Christmas trees and red-and-white puppets come into high demand over the holiday season in Gaza, Bethlehem and Italy.

Though most of Gaza's 2 million population are Muslim, around 1,000 are Christian, mostly Greek Orthodox, who celebrate Christmas on January 7.

"Our prophet encouraged us to respect all religions and we like to join with them in celebrating their day," said the group's product designer Laila Tayeh.

Tayeh and colleagues are part of the Zaina Cooperative Association, working in a Gaza community that often restricts women's movement outside the home.

Haneen Alsammak, the association's executive manager, said the project had given women training in carpentry and tailoring, and enabled them to leave their homes to work and spread some Christmas cheer.

"This is a message of love towards Christians inside and outside Gaza," she said.

Gaza is run by the Islamist Hamas movement, which is designated a terrorist group by the West and neighbouring Israel against which it has fought three wars in the past decade.

Citing security reasons, Israel restricts movement in and out of Gaza and maintains a naval blockade of the coastal strip where the economy suffers from high unemployment and poverty.

In 2018, only 26% of Gaza women participated in the workforce, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics.

School penny drive keeps adding up for Toy Fund - Press Herald

That’s a lot of pennies.

The students at Brown School in South Portland have completed their annual penny drive for the Press Herald Toy Fund and once again made sure some less fortunate children got to enjoy a holiday season with gifts.

This year’s total was $281.71. And while that sum is impressive on its own, the Brown School community has been doing this so long that their combined donations have got to be approaching 1 million pennies, or $10,000, if they haven’t exceeded it already.

The penny drive began well over a decade ago and some of the annual donations have exceeded $1,000.

The annual effort is led by the fifth-grade class and provides the whole community with some valuable lessons, not only about the joy of giving and helping other children, but also about the mathematical truth that working together can turn small individual efforts into big accomplishments.

The toy fund is still in need of cash donations from readers to cover its costs and to sustain the charity as it moves into another decade helping Maine families.
