TUCSON-Toys for Tots annual toy drive is in desperate need of more donations. Officials say as it stands now they don't have enough toys for their recipients.
"This year unfortunately our donations don't seem to be as high as they used to," Christina Colchado Asst. Coordinator for Toys for Tots said, "So unfortunately we had to postpone our distribution and push it back a couple of days and we're calling on the community because we really need to serve these kids. We've got about 14,000 requests and we have no where near that in toys right now."
The toy drive has been working to help families for over half a century by supplying gifts for children. Over the past 16 years nationwide Marines have distributed an average of 18,000 toys annually.
"It does take a lot of work to get this whole process started,"Corporal Miguel Sandoval Toys for Tots Coordinator said,"It's an amazing feeling just to see you giving a toy to a family in need not even just to the child."
Volunteers with Toys for Tots are asking for the communities help to donate toys worth about $20 that is new and un-wrapped.
"This Toys for Tots gives people hope,"Colchado said, "It gives people the idea that while Christmas is hard and things are difficult if they can give their kid a toy they can give them something."
